News from Hungary
Hi there! After two funny, hard and expensive weekends at openair festivals, time had come for my summer holidays. Rather uninspired, I had no plans where to go and even thought about staying at home during these two weeks. But it came, that I met with some friends and we decided to make a trip to Hungary on short notice and to visit the well known Balaton respectively. So we grab our stuff and started with a friend’s car towards Hungary. There was a 12 hour trip we were looking forward to. First across Austria (the main part), then Slovenia and Hungary eventually. It was quite strange to see road signs marked with cities such as “Zagreb” or “Sofia” - I only heard these names during reports about war a few years ago and now I was that close to it. However, we arrived at about 8 a.m. in Siofok. After some trouble with locals while bargaining for the room rent we finally got a nice appartment with two rooms and an own kitchen/bath room.
Well, I think you can imagine what happened after. We headed for the various bars and came in contact with other tourists. The main disco there is named “Palace” and it’s also the place where we spent our first two nights. Thereafter, we began to discover the shore of the Balaton lake…it’s a weird one: the average depth is 3.8 metres and the maximum depth is 12 metres only. More precisely said, you could walk hundreds of metres without having to swim for the water was that shallow…no way to take a swim!
